In China, the poor worker Tietou repairs tractors and misses his sweetheart Xiu Xiu, back in Japan, she having never sent any news to her family or him. While illegally emigrating to Japan, Tietou loses his Chinese documents and so cannot return to his country. He is welcomed by his countrymen who lodge and work in Shinjuku where they also help him to find illegal work. While running from a police raid through the sewage system where Chinese are illegally working, Tietou saves Inspector Kitano from drowning in the dirty water. Later, after an incident with his cousin, Joe, and a Taiwan gang, Tietou saves the powerful Yakuza boss Toshinari Eguchi. He is the husband of Xiu Xiu, who is now called Yuko and are parents of a little daughter. The mobster offers a dirty job to Tietou; in retribution, he promises to deliver the quarter dominated by the Taiwan gang to him. Tietou becomes the boss of the Chinese illegal immigrants. But his peaceful methods make him unpopular and Tietou starts to lose control over his men which escalates into a giant gang war.

Setelah merdeka, di awal tahun 1948, sekelompok kadet yang kemudian menjadi pasukan gerilya elit setelah kejadian pembunuhan massal para kadet calon prajurit di tahun 1947. Setelah menyelesaikan misi yang berakhir tragis dengan kehilangan anggota kelompok ini, kesetiaan kelompok ini kembali diuji dengan mundurnya pimpinan mereka, Amir (Lukman Sardi) dari Angkatan Darat.

Tanpa pemimpin dan dengan dirundung kesedihan karena kehilangan mereka, para kadet membawa dendam mereka dalam perjalanan misi mereka ke Bali tempat Dayan yang bisu (T Rifnu Wikana) tinggal, untuk membalas dendam kepada Belanda. Mereka dikirim ke Bali untuk membunuh Kolonel Raymer (Michael Bell) yang telah membunuh keluarga Tomas (Donny Alamsyah) di awal trilogi ini.

Tomas telah dipilih sebagai pemimpin baru dari kelompok kadet ini. Menghadapi meriam kapal perang Belanda, Marius yang playboy dan peminum (Darius Sinathrya) harus mengatasi rasa takutnya karena persaingannya dengan Tomas untuk memperebutkan Senja, seorang gadis berdarah biru (Rahayu Saraswati). Sesampainya di Bali, kelompok taruna ini menyelamatkan Dayu (Ranggani Puspandya) dari kekejaman kelompok milisi KNIL Kolonel Raymer, tapi salah satu dari kelompok kadet ini hampir saja mati terbunuh.

Saat teman mereka sedang berjuang antara hidup dan mati, kelompok kadet ini bertemu dengan pemimpin pemberontak bawah tanah Wayan Suta (diperankan oleh penyanyi Nugie). Mereka merencanakan serangan terakhir untuk melawan milisi Raymer.

Review: The first Conan is one of my favorite movies of all time. The Destroyer sucks although I did like it when I was a kid. The new one sucks too. There are too many battle scenes and they are all dull. There is absolutely nothing new here. What made the first movie so great was the poetry of it all. The land felt barren. Conan was not another cookie cooker hero on a cookie cutter George Lucas hero quest but a true nomad, a man who wanders from one encounter to the next, a witch, a snake cult, getting drunk and laid, punching a camel, happening upon the man who murdered his father, killing him, the epistemological space in which the first Conan takes place is that of a senseless premodern universe in which magical events succeed each other without ever truly fusing into one overarching narrative. Meaning is always somewhere over the horizon and the gods never deign to show themselves.
The movie is filmed, scripted and scored in such a way that we feel the radical foreignness of Conan’s universe. In the new film, however, there is no alterity at all, no imagination, no sense of being transported, no attempt to depart from the vaguely ideological boilerplate superhero narrative in even the slightest way, no mythical resonance, the new Conan struts and smirks like something out of the Fast and the Furious and has none of the cruel charisma of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although the movie is incredibly violent and gory, the pat coziness of the narrative renders all of this violence absolutely sterile. Nothing real is ever at stake and the movie has nothing to say about anything. It practically evaporates off the screen it is so ephemeral. Don’t waste your time with this one, watch the first one again.

Colombiana (2011)

Review: Colombiana stars Zoe Saldana as a girl from Bogota, Colombia who becomes an assassin after witnessing her parents murder. Thats pretty much it. Theres really no more, no less. The plot is something youve seen a million times before and the ending is pretty predictable. The characters are not developed very much but that doesnt matter, much like my quibbles with the completely inaccurate shooting locations that pose as Colombia at the beginning of the movie.
This is an action movie, first and foremost and the movie moves quick enough not to waste any chance at seeing a good action sequence. Saldana is good in the role and she does a good enough job anchoring the film. The rest cant be said about the rest of the movie. I cant to say it was bad. But some of the acting range was wildly uneven. Plus some of the film was downright laughable. One scene that really stood out to me was the scene where Saldanas character tells her uncle that she wants to be a killer. He tries to convince her to change her mind by taking out a gun and shooting a moving car in broad daylight! In front of other people!
Now despite my reservations with the lack of character development and the weak plot, I thought it was pretty entertaining trash. Its the type of movie where you leave your brain at the door and have a good time.

Review: Seven friends have taken a much needed vacation from there busy college life. Their vacation happens to be a house on an island in the middle of a lake. But when one of the friends are violently attacked by something in the water they seek help but soon find out that sharks are in the swamps and that there much needed help turns to the people who unleashed several species of sharks and are trying to make snuff movies. Now, the friends are being picked off one by one and being torn apart piece by piece.
I was extremely excited to see this movie when I first heard about it but I also was a bit upset when I found out that it was PG-13 but I eventually got over it. Director David R. Ellis who directed films such as Homeward Bound II, Snakes on a Plane, and Final Destination 2 and 4 was most predictable to direct this film and what I mean is that his last movie The Final Destination was a bit campy and cheesy but overall not as bad as films such as Halloween II which came out on the same day that year.
The Sharks were very detailed but they lacked some things in the CGI department such as the way some of the sharks moved and attacked. First of all Sharks are more likely to eat a seal or even a near dead whale that humans and people have a better chance of having a coconut fall on there head and dying or being killed by a bee sting to even attacked by a shark. They even mentioned that in the film. And another thing. Piranha 3D took nearly 2 and a half years to make and Shark Night took about 10 to 11 months and it truly did feel a little bit rushed.
